Department of Revenue's Budget Committee makes Board recommendations
If you were unable to attend this month’s dealer board meeting, here's a brief recap.
April is the month where the Department of Revenue’s Budget Committee makes recommendations to the Board on how to adjust fees for the coming year. If you recall, the Board lowered fees last year by approximately 35%. Following that decision, we expected a sizeable increase this year. Rather, the Committee recommends that the Board hold fees flat for 2022. This is a win for dealers.
The forecast for the industry was about seven percent growth in the calendar year, which would reflect about five percent industry growth within the government fiscal year (July 1-June 30). The Committee estimates the Division will begin the fiscal with approximately $1.4 million, which is within the 16.5% margin they are allowed to carry over from the previous year.
Additionally, a franchised dealer was cited this month for unlicensed sales in the absence of acquiring an off-premise permit for an event taking place away from the primary place of business. This is a reminder as summer approaches and big advertising and selling events appear on the horizon — such as lke the Greeley Stampede or Cherry Creek Arts Festival — that you need a permit if you're going to conduct sales activity. This includes any test drive or discussion of price or financing beyond a simple explanation of features on the vehicle displayed.
As a reminder, there is no business meeting in May, so the Board will reconvene in June.
In case you missed it: On April 6, 2022, CADA hosted the first Colorado Electrification seminar, where dealers had the chance to talk with a panel of experts — from energy providers, the Colorado Energy Office and a variety of Electric-centric organizations. This seminar was facilitated by former car dealer Ryan Ferrero and offered answers to dealers questions, including:
How do I know if my transformer can accommodate DC fast charging?
How do I understand my utility company's tariff rates?
How do I find, apply for, write and receive large grants?
And SO MANY MORE QUESTIONS!
The lively, highly interactive seminar is now available from CADA's Education on Demand! Download it today and stay on top of the fast-changing world of dealership electrification.
